Nifty ideas you can use to build a better business

Walk In Their Shoes

Before you pitch your products or services to multicultural markets, prepare your business to deliver what you promise. For instance, if you advertise in Spanish-speaking publications, be sure you have employees who can speak the language fluently with Hispanic customers. Or maybe you're targeting a geographic neighborhood that's predominantly Asian. Before you launch a marketing campaign, educate yourself. Visit the neighborhood. Eat lunch at a neighborhood cafe. Shop in the stores. Find out what appeals to your potential ethnic customers -- and what turns them off.

Performance Reward

Give your top-performing employees rewards and recognition if you want them to stay on the job long term. Here's one way to do both -- turn them into trainers. Ask your best and brightest mentor or train other staff members. You'll make your top performers feel valued. You'll give other staffers an opportunity to learn from the best. And you'll save on training costs. It's a winning idea for everyone.
